Stories of personal loss can be compelling and stories of identity theft can be frightening; but be sure to evaluate the usefulness of dedicating class time to these types of lessons. Students need to understand the concepts of insurance and what should be insured. Students need to recognize the need for internet safety and protecting from ID theft; but the focus should be how to protect oneself and where to find the latest information rather than too many stories of past loss. Introduce numerous topics; but spend the majority of time on topics most relevant to students (car insurance rather than life insurance).
