Philanthropy

When a course is designed in personal finance, often the concept of philanthropy is forgotten. Within a semester based course, philanthropy should be addressed many times and not simply in stand alone lessons. At a minimum, the topic should be included in budget discussions in addition to specific topical lessons. Be aware that this topic could lead to discussions of religious beliefs and specific social causes. Do your best to avoid these types of discussions and focus on the concept that everyone tends to be philanthropic at some point and it should be planned for within one’s budget.
