- Students will demonstrate they understand the importance of putting a value on time, not just money, by completing the worksheet entitled "Philanthropy".
- Students will demonstrate they understand that giving can include giving time and giving money by completing the worksheet entitled "Philanthropy."

Activities:
“Hook” – Raise your hand if you have ever bought anyone a holiday gift. Raise your hand if you have ever done
something for someone else without being motivated by anything other than being helpful. How did it make you
feel? Philanthropy is defined as a desire to improve the material, social, and spiritual welfare of humanity,
especially through charitable activities. – 2 minutes
a. Direct Instruction (Students are to follow along with the worksheet) – 5 minutes
- Discuss the value of time. You need to determine what the value of time is for yourself, with your family, and giving back to society. Working longer and longer hours to earn more money does not always lead to happiness. Allocating your time in a way that you enjoy the most, and giving back to others will make you happier.
- Discuss philanthropy. Philanthropy is defined as a desire to improve the material, social, and spiritual welfare of humanity, especially through charitable activities. It is important to recognize that philanthropy is not limited to giving money - - it is much more than that.
b. Classroom Discussion – 5 minutes
- Review basic examples of philanthropy (material, social, spiritual)
- Develop a chart on the board (material, social, spiritual) and have the students give specific examples of each.
