- Reinforce that we live in a changing world, and that we are going to need to prepare ourselves.
a. Direct Instruction with supported graphs – 5 minutes

- Earnings Differential By Age & Unemployment
b. Computer Assisted Learning – 10 minutes
- http://stats.bls.gov/oes/2000/oes_nat.htm - Students will suggest careers to research (opportunities and wage estimates) and they are reviewed in front of the class. Write the url address on the board for students to take note of for their own independent research.
c. Direct Instruction – 15 minutes
- What is money? (medium of exchange)
- Does income come in forms other than money? (Health Insurance, 401 K, Free Lunches, etc)
- Keep this in mind when you consider future careers and preparing for retirement!
- Students will understand income (cash benefits) and understand money.
- An example of a wasted benefit, is according to the United States Department of Labor, of those who had 401(K) coverage available, 25% did not participate. (Explain what this is, and reinforce that we will learn more about it later in the year).
- These are all key considerations when planning to prepare for a future career.
d. Distribute the Basic Expense Worksheet – 5 minutes
- Students are to track their expenses using this worksheet for the year
